[post_content] => Hello! I recently built a temporary 40 gallon enclosure for my baby nile monitor Milo! It is semi aquatic and the walls are made using expanding foam, silicone and eco earth shredded coco fiber. His basking area is around 115 and 120 at the hottest spot. His substrate is a mixture of coco fiber, organic topsoil and playsand for burrowing. The aquatic side is aquarium safe sand with fake plants and decorations and the water stays at a constant 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity bounces between 50 and 60% he seems to be absolutely thriving feeding on appropriately sized pinkie mice, Crickets, Dubias, raw ground turkey, cooked eggs, chicken hearts and gizzards and occasionally rosey red fish that swim in his pond. I supplement with repti cal with D3 5 times a week for everything besides fish and rodents. He’s shed twice in the past 4 weeks that I’ve had him. Keep in mind I’m well aware of what Nile monitors grow into as I’m keeping him in this 40 gallon for only about 6 months as I’m hand building an outdoor greenhouse for him to live in for good. Anyway that’s milos enclosure and everything I’ve done so far to keep him healthy and happy, I have experience with several other types of monitor lizards like savanahs but this is by far the biggest monitor lizard I’ve taken on. Even though he’s a baby he’s an absolute sweetheart, very social and never hisses or bites and for lack of better term actually seems to enjoy attention. If there’s any issues or problems that anyone sees or thinks of I’d love for some feedback and I’ll get on top of it right away. Thank you!

[post_content] => So i have a baby albino milk snake and im asking when i should switch from pinkies to live mice and also how often should i feed pinkies to this new hatchling its chart from the pet store says 2 1/2 weeks of feeding im assuming this means the age as well
So results of research some say 3-5 days others 7-10 and i believe its because they are doing a general number for adults
I would love it if someone who raises snakes specifically milk snakes can tell me the proper days to wait between feeds i know not to handle after just want my lil guy to grow up healthy

[post_content] => Sure, going to the grocery store is easier.  But is it better for you?  We wrote this detailed guide comparing store bought eggs vs farm fresh.  But studies have revealed that farm fresh eggs are superior to store bought eggs in a number of areas.
  • farm fresh eggs are more nutritional
  • farm fresh eggs promote sustainability
  • farm fresh eggs are tastier because of the hen's higher quality of living
How do farm fresh eggs this advantage?  The difference is how hens are raised.  Farm fresh chickens are raised on small farms, in open fields, where they can forage in open pastures and fields, they are ingesting additional nutrients that aren't going to be found in chicken feed.  A diet made only of chicken feed is okay.  However, a hen that can graze and forage through open fields is going to be heartier, healthier, and less stressed.  But do keep in mind, free roaming chickens are more susceptible to predators. The general public assumes that store-bought eggs that are labeled cage free or free range means their chickens are raised in quality conditions.  But this is not necessary true.  Although these marketing slogans simulate a positive interpretation from many consumers, these chickens are often raised in crammed, over-populated environments.  These types of environments have been proven to drastically increase stress hormones within the chickens, which do have an adverse effect on the quality of the eggs produced. Raising your own chickens for their farm fresh eggs also reduces our dependency on mass produced chicken farms.  These large, institutional are notorious for excess water usage.  Buy bringing the chickens home, you'll reduce dependency on these farms, and improve your own healthy with quality eggs. Of course, the challenge with farm fresh eggs is actually raising your own hens.  But from experience, the biggest challenge is actually raising the baby chicks into the hens.  Chicks are at extreme risk to temps, predators, and insufficient food and water.  A good chicken keeper will monitor their chicks daily, keep them clean, and make sure their temps are managed.   Because baby chicks don't have their adult feathers, they are not able to retain heat, nor protect themselves from the cold.  So it's critical that chicken keepers take the extra steps to manage and protect their chicks.  After 12-16 weeks, these chicks will turn into adult chickens, which don't require as much maintenance.
